- Training, Development and Replacement (TDR)
-
The TDR program is designed mainly for the BOC trainees in order to improve their level of competency by acquiring underpinning knowledge in different disciplines such as Processing Operations, Electrical Maintenance, Instrumentation Maintenance and Mechanical Maintenance. A placement test has been conducted by the TDR team of Training and Development department to classify BOC TDR candidates into different levels for each discipline:
- Level 1.
- Level 2.
- Level 3.
The foundation level along with level 1 will follow classroom and workshop training in MLC while Level 2 & level 3 will follow OJT training and Shadowing programs onsite.
- Classroom Training:
TDR participants attend courses in MLC according to a flexible plan that matches their work pattern of four days on against 04 days off and gives them the chance to learn while at work. These courses are provided by a highly experienced and specialized trainers in oil and gas.
- On - the Job - Training:
OJT is a program for the BOC TDR candidates to immerse them in a work environment relevant to their courses providing them the opportunity to set their hands on and enhance the technical knowledge and professional experience required for the TDR objectives.
- Shadowing & Reverse Shadowing:
Refers to a particular on-the-job employee training program. The prospective BOC employee, either new or existing, who intends to develop expertise in a specific job, observes the operating activities of a seasoned and experienced AS employee. It is a very effective form of training and development for individual job profiles.
Job Shadowing
The process of job shadowing is more or less similar across its different forms with some subtle variations, as explained below:
- Observation: In this case, the mentee (BOC employee) will observe the AS mentor perform the day-to-day activities. Typically, it represents what the mentor does as an employee daily. Therefore, it is most useful when the mentee understands the functional job profile.
- Regular Briefing: In this case, the mentee follows the mentor over a specific period for some particular activities, usually preceded by a small briefing followed by debriefing. This type of job shadowing is most useful when the mentee and the mentor work in proximity. The mentor can inform the mentee about the schedule of the specific activities that are of value to the functional job profile.
- Hands-On: This is a mere extension of the observation model, where the mentee is allowed to carry out some of the job tasks they observe. In this way, the mentee gets the hands-on experience of the role while protected by the close supervision of the mentor.
The main purpose of job shadowing is to qualify BOC employees for their target jobs and upgrade their performance level. It provides them with much deeper insight into their functional job profile and allows them to gain knowledge and skills critical for their jobs.
Reverse Shadowing: Normally what we would do is assign someone to shadow the expert, only have you ever really learnt anything by observing? Did you learn to ride a bicycle by observing or by riding? This is where the reverse shadowing come into play. This reverse shadowing allows the BOC employee to learn by getting his or her hands dirty. It ensures the BOC employees (mentee) perform assigned tasks until consistently doing them safely and independently.
