The Majnoon Oilfield Road Safety Team, in collaboration with the Basra Education Directorate and the Majnoon Social Performance, has launched its annual road safety awareness campaign for primary school students. This initiative targets first, second, and third graders from twelve schools located near the oilfield’s main roads, with the goal of teaching children vital skills for staying safe in traffic-heavy areas. By focusing on young students, the campaign addresses the specific vulnerabilities of children around busy roadways, contributing to a safer community.
The campaign delivers essential road safety lessons through engaging, interactive sessions led by trained instructors. Students learn crucial safety practices such as holding an adult’s hand when near traffic, walking safely on sidewalks, checking both ways before crossing streets, and understanding the importance of wearing seat belts. They are also educated on recognizing safe zones for play away from road hazards and how to use pedestrian crossings properly. In addition to these lessons, high-visibility vests are distributed to the students, improving their visibility and helping to ensure their safety when walking near roads or crossing streets. These hands-on lessons empower students with practical skills they can apply every day, boosting their confidence and awareness when navigating traffic.
By instilling these road safety practices at a young age, the campaign aims to foster a culture of safety that extends beyond the classroom. As students adopt these skills, they share their newfound knowledge with their families, further spreading safety awareness throughout the community. The Majnoon Oilfield Management is grateful for the cooperation of the Basra Education Directorate and looks forward to the positive impact this initiative will have on student safety and the well-being of the community.
